Invitation To Form A Unit

As you know our national association is divided into State Chapters. In an effort to maximize face to face, member to member contact within our association, and to reap

the personal benefit created by a community of massage professionals close to your home, we have units in our chapter.

The unit is a local group of members coming from a defined geographical area that has been officially designated. Each unit elects officers and is provided an operating

budget from our Chapter. Officially a unit needs to hold at least two meetings per year and are encouraged to hold educational events of interest to massage therapists.

Currently our chapter has six units, in order of formation they are the Pittsburgh (Western) Unit, Philadelphia (PUPCA) Unit, South Central Unit, North East Unit, Lehigh

Valley Unit and North Eastern Unit (Erie).

The Pittsburgh Unit is loosely defined as the greater Pittsburgh and surrounding area. The Philadelphia Unit is Philadelphia, Chester, Montgomery and Bucks counties.

The South Central Unit is Dauphin, Cumberland, Franklin, Adams and York counties. The North Eastern Unit is Luzerne, Lackawanna, Wyoming, Pike, Wayne and

Susquehanna counties.

Any member can join any unit within the state, not just the one of your residence, but you can only be a member of one unit at any one time. Units need to be a matter

of practicality for the therapists living in them so if they feel too large to be manageable or effective for the intended purpose they can be restructured divided or

boundaries can be moved. Creativity is encouraged.

The Chapter Board of Directors invites you to form a unit in your area if there is not already one there.

How to start a unit?
All you need to do is draft a letter stating your intention to start a new unit, describe the boundaries and get five active AMTA members to sign the letter. Submit it to :
