Western Unit Ronald McDonald House Massage Project

Described as “Massage at its Best,” volunteers from the Western PA Unit (Pittsburgh and vicinity ) donate their time and talents to provide a brief respite to

parents of critically ill children. This program, started Cheryl Siniakin 11 years ago, continues through the caring hands of those who give their time.

Jack Smith, unit Vice- Chair reports that the on going work at RMH is going well. In 2004, in excess of 100 massages were done by some very special volunteers.

For the first three months of 2005 volunteers have done 25 table massages and 25 plus chair massages. Marsha Morris, Eileen Dorfman, Becky Cordell, along

with Jack Smith have opened their hearts to do some very special massage work. This giving of professional massage work and a wonderful heart from these people

keeps this program up and running.

If you would like to join this special group of people, even if you can spare just one Sunday, please contact us.

Any amount of time would really be appreciated, and it would help out our current volunteers and at the same time let us do more

massage work.

The RMH also has a wish list of items that they are always hoping to get through donations. These items range from food, to cleaning supplies, cooking

supplies and paper products. If this is an area that you would like to help out, you can contact JoAnn Kerris at the Pittsburgh RMH, (412-362-3400) or any of the

Western Unit AMTA volunteers below:

Volunteering at the Ronald McDonald house could be a good way to warm your heart and energize your soul!

“We talked about how massage can help manage incredible stress and come back even stronger,” says massage therapist Jack Smith, who

has been in the program for 2 years. “People in an edge-of-death mentality like this forget about their bodily needs because they are focused

on their love ones.”

A permanent massage table is on site, a donation much appreciated by those who avail themselves of our services. You can bring a massage chair

with you if you prefer.
