AMTA Pa State Capital Rotunda Massage
by Brenda Schuck
AMTA PA volunteers provide chair massage to State Senators, Representatives of the House and fellow staff
members of the capitol building, between the hours of 10:00am and 2:00pm.This is a perfect opportunity to
meet them, and educate them about massage and its benefits.
Joanne Mengel NCTMB and AMTA member and unit chair has gone numerous
times and described her experience “Just being in the Capitol Building with all the
magnificent architecture is worth the trip alone. But as we set up the chairs, hang the
banner and place our information and brochures on the table, one can't help but
to be caught up in the excitement of the political world we seldom have the chance
to experience.”
One of the benefits we give back to our volunteers is the $50 education voucher.
This voucher is available to any AMTA PA member who volunteers 3 times to
do chair massage at the rotunda. You can accumulate these vouchers over the
year, the education voucher is to be used at AMTA PA educational seminar.
Tamara Gregg has been volunteering as a student and now as a professional.
When I asked her what motivates her to go she said “I have found that it is very
rewarding to be able to help a person to relax, to release shoulder tension from
sitting at their desk and such, while helping to further the profession by supporting
licensure as well as just increasing the awareness and intention of massage therapy.”
She also stated “I have gained a lot personally and professionally from the
experience. I have learned a lot by watching the other massage therapists’ work,
have had lots of interesting conversations, have had a chance to tour the Capitol
building, and gained deeper insight into how bills work their way through government.”
Let’s make this the best year for rotunda chair massage! Our beautiful state
capitol building and all of our wonderful volunteers, helping our massage profession
blossom! As we continue to promote the protection of the public from injury by
unethical or untrained therapist. Let us work with the legislators to encourage them to
seek out our professionals, and ask for their support especially at this critical time in
our licensing endeavors.
A special thank you to all of those members who have done chair massage
at the rotunda in the past. Thank you to those students who also have donated their
time to promote the massage industry. Last, a thank you in advance, for taking
1 day of your time this year to do chair massage at the Pa state capital building.
May your flowers blossom as beautiful as the rotunda at the state capital building!
Please contact me or any of the other members listed here regarding the
rotunda massage.
Thanks again,
